Are you planning on renting an RV anytime soon? Whether it’s your first time or your tenth time, packing can be overwhelming. You want to make sure you have everything you need without overpacking and cluttering your living space.

To make your packing process stress-free, we’ve compiled a must-have RV rental packing list that will ensure you have everything you need for a fantastic adventure.

Does Your RV Rental Come With The Basic Essentials?

The first thing to consider is what your RV rental already comes with.

This could save you from packing a bunch of things you don’t need.

Here’s a list of basic items your RV rental may come equipped with:

  • Coffee Maker
  • Microwave
  • Stove
  • Oven
  • Pots and Pans
  • Utensils
  • Cutting Board
  • Mixing Bowls
  • Plates
  • Fridge / Freezer
  • Bed sheets / linens
  • Bath Towels
  • Hand Towels
  • Grill

  • Generator
  • Leveling blocks
  • Fire extinguisher
  • Toilet paper
  • Paper towels
  • Cleaning Supplies

Double check with the owner to see what items are already in the RV and if there’s items missing you may want to consider adding them to your packing list.

Must Have RV Camping Supplies

Pro campers will agree that these items are a must have for any RV camping trip. Some of them seem so obvious but it’s easy to forget when you’re rushing to get everything together for your trip.

1. Kitchen Supplies:

RVs are equipped with a kitchenette, but in most cases you’ll need to bring your own kitchen supplies. Be sure to bring basic items like plates, bowls, cups, cutlery, a can opener, and a bottle opener. Don’t forget your favorite spices, oil, butter, creamer, and coffee maker. And when it’s time to clean up you may need dish soap, sponges, paper towels, hand towels, and a drying rack. Trash bags and plastic Ziplock bags are important too.

2. Bedding and Linens:

Make sure you pack enough bedding and linens for everyone in your group. You’ll need sheets, blankets, and pillows. If you have a sleeping bag, this is an easy item to bring instead of linens, you can put the sleeping bag on top of the bed or open it up and use it as a comforter. Bring extra blankets for those chilly nights, and don’t forget to bring towels and washcloths for showering, cleaning, or for the beach.

3. First-Aid Kit & Medications:

A well-stocked first-aid kit is essential. It should include bandages, gauze, antiseptic wipes, tweezers, pain relievers, and any necessary prescription medications. RV camping usually involves outdoor activities, so you never know when someone in your group may get a scrape or burn. It’s good to be prepared for any situation that could come up.

4. Tools:

RVs are complicated machines, and you’ll need a basic tool kit just in case you need to make any repairs. Pack a set of screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, and a hammer, just in case you need them. If you’re dry camping, it’s a good idea to bring a shovel in case you need to dig holes to level your RV. An axe is good to have too for splitting wood for campfires.  Keep flashlights within reach for when it gets dark.

5. Music & Entertainment:

Long trips can be relaxing but may get boring if you don’t have much to do at your campsite. Especially for kids who get bored easily. Make sure you have enough entertainment for everyone. Pack board games, card games, books, or electronic devices to keep the family entertained. If your RV rental has a TV and DVD player, we recommend bringing DVD movies or gaming systems. You may not always have a great TV antenna signal so bringing movies ensures you’ll stay entertained on those quieter nights. Bring a wireless speaker if you want to listen to music outdoors.

Our checklist has a list of entertainment items that will ensure everyone is having fun!

6. Camping Chairs & Outdoor Equipment:

If you plan to spend time outdoors, bring outdoor equipment like folding chairs, a folding table, and a grill. Don’t forget bug spray and suntan lotion. If you’re camping somewhere that allows fires, pack firewood and a lighter. If not, consider bringing a propane fire pit like this one. A large outdoor rug is great for keeping your outdoor living space clean and keeping the dust down.

7. Cleaning Supplies:

Just like any other living space, your RV will need to be cleaned. Pack cleaning supplies like a broom, dustpan, and a vacuum. You’ll also need cleaning supplies for the kitchen, bathroom, and floors.

8. Clothing:

Pack clothing that is suitable for the weather and activities you have planned. Bring comfortable shoes for hiking and exploring, and don’t forget your swimsuit for those sunny days. If you’re staying at an RV park they may have a pool and/or hot tub!

9. Toiletries:

Here’s some basic toiletries we recommend bringing on your next RV rental trip:

Toothpaste, toothbrush, makeup, makeup remover, shampoo, conditioner, tweezers, nail clippers, pain reliever (for headaches and hangovers), hair brush or comb, hair ties, razor, shaving cream, tampons, chapstick, lotion.

10. RV Essentials:

Pack essentials like a GPS, a flashlight, and a portable charger, phone charger. You’ll also need a full water tank and sewer hose for dumping waste.

So, there you have it! Packing for an RV trip may seem like a big job, but it doesn’t have to be stressful. Just take some time to plan ahead and get everything organized. Don’t forget to create a checklist (or download ours!) of all the must-have items for an RV adventure. Keep in mind that less is more when it comes to packing for an RV rental. Avoid cluttering up your space with unnecessary things, and focus on bringing only the essentials. Bring the essentials, and you’ll be ready for an unforgettable RV rental trip!
